Behind the El Paso Shooting: Unraveling a Dark Network Connecting John of God, Timberlawn, and Trauma-Based Experiments
How a single mass shooting incident links to an ominous nexus of sexual abuse and....trauma based mind control? What???
I received a message from a viewer on Instagram the other day, and they brought up an incident and connection that I hadn’t thought about in a long time: the 2019 El Paso shooting perpetrated by Patrick Crusius, one of the most devastating mass shootings in recent memory. I had written a version of this article some time last year, but just never got around to refining it enough to post. After the message, I finally got around to it, and I almost forgot how much of a wild ride this story is.
While I don’t typically cover mass casualty incidents in my videos, I make exceptions for those that contain peculiar elements, unexplained dimensions, or unusual connections that demand further scrutiny. Today, I wanted to circle back around to a connection made by researchers in 2019 that absolutely floored me at the time, because it was an obscure connection that nobody could have ever predicted popping up in such a horrific massacre as the one in El Paso.
Within an hour or two of the August 3rd, 2019 shooting, the anons over on 4chan’s /pol/ had dug up just about every shred of information that could be found on the shooter (Patrick Crusius), as well as his family. While a lot of the investigation into the Las Vegas shooting revolved around the mysterious background of Stephen Paddock, the mysterious shooter, and whether or not there were other gunmen that night, this story actually has less to do with the gunman himself, and more to do with the connections his family has.
The specific connection I’m referring to is the connection Patrick Crusius’s father had to convicted rapist and alleged baby trafficker João Teixeira de Faria, better known as John of God.
Before I get to that, however, I want to first cover some other dimensions of this story that I find to be significant. The first half of this article will be dedicated to examining those dimensions, and the second half will be dedicated to the connections between John of God and the shooting in El Paso.
John of God
Most of you probably recognize this name, as it is one that I have brought up over and over and over again since the case hit headlines back in 2018. He’s been a focal point in my overarching research into Pizzagate, as he is just one of six or seven others that not only have connections to the Elite in the upper echelon of society, but were swiftly taken down in the years following the emergence of Pizzagate in 2016. As you know, my main focus on the Pizzagate theory has been tracing the connections between these confirmed cases (considered by the media, Establishment, and general public to be isolated, unrelated incidents) and the figures we encountered during the initial Pizzagate research back in 2016.
To many of us looking into the theory at the time, it was no coincidence that a major elite child trafficking ‘conspiracy theory’ crops up in 2016, and is then immediately followed up by four straight years of rapid-fire arrests targeting some of the Elite’s biggest names. It also seemed unlikely to be a coincidence that each of these major arrests seem to overlap and connect to not just each other, but to the figures who came up during the investigation into Pizzagate as well.
Between 2016 and 2024, these are the Elites that have gone down for sex crimes, pedophilia, and trafficking: NXIVM, Harvey Weinstein, Peter Nygard, John of God, Jeffrey Epstein, Jean-Luc Brunel, Ghislaine Maxwell, and most recently, Diddy.
John of God was a Brazilian self-proclaimed faith healer who rose to international fame and captivated a massive audience before his conviction on numerous sexual abuse and rape charges.
Based out of Abadiânia, Brazil, João Teixeira de Faria ran a spiritual healing center called the Casa de Dom Inácio de Loyola. Many thousands would travel miles each year to visit his spiritual healing center, and some of his visitors even included celebrities and other noteworthy figures.
John of God conducted many controversial “spiritual healings” and “psychic surgeries” that were both extremely unsafe, and incredibly illegal. In fact, some of them I cannot even watch videos of—especially the eye scraping. That’s right, eye scraping.
Some of his procedures involved scraping visitor’s eye balls and inserting scissors or forceps deep into the patients’ noses without anesthesia or proper medical sanitation. Some of them involved creating an incision in their bodies deep enough where blood drips down there bodies. Faria claimed to channel spirits in order to perform these “psychic surgeries”, and these “healing” events were often performed in front of large audiences. To perform these “psychic surgeries”, Faria claimed he channeled spirits.
The allegations against Faria were numerous and severe. Over 600 women, including his own daughter, accused him of sexual abuse and exploitation. He is alleged to have lured women into private sessions under the guise of healing, only to sexually assault them when they arrived.
Undoubtedly the most disturbing dimension of this story, though, were the claims that he ran a baby trafficking operation, where young girls were held captive, forced to bear children, and then murdered after a decade.
While the above remains unverified, we no longer have the luxury of simply disregarding implausible-sounding claims like this one. Besides, how implausible is such a claim, really? Why would we even believe such a thing is implausible?
One of the figures who was instrumental in exposing Faria’s crimes was a Brazilian activist named Sabrina Bittencourt. According to her Wikipedia page, she was one of the biggest names in the contemporary feminist movement, and a fairly recognized figure in Brazil’s activist circles, especially those involved in preventing the sexual abuse of women and children. Her Wiki page also states that she was an investigator for intelligence agencies and a technology advisor for governments.
Following her 2017 proclamation to become more involved in exposing sexual abuse in religious circles, she found herself on the trail of John Of God’s sexual abuse ring and worked to expose it. She collected testimony from former member’s of Teixeria’s organization, which described a scheme that involved poor girls (aged 14-18) being offered money to live on his farms. It is there that, according to Bittencourt, they allegedly became sex slaves and were forced to bear children.
From there, Bittencourt unraveled a horrific tale that spanned at least two-decades, and allegedly featured a long-running human trafficking operation that involved the rapes and forced impregnations of women who had their babies sold to wealthy families across Europe. Bittencourt also stated that these women would then work in Texeria’s mines and then killed after ten years.
In this 6-minute video of Bittencourt, she describes the operation in all its nightmarish detail:
In 2019, Sabrina Bittencourt was found dead by what authorities determined was a suicide. You can read more about Bittencourt and her life at the Columbia Journalism Review, which published a good piece about her.
While we cannot verify all of Bittencourt’s claims, the fact remains: she did help expose a monster that really was assaulting and raping young women, apparently scores of them, for over two decades. That is real, and that is confirmed.
When you consider everything outlined above and reflect on the long list of famous individuals—and perhaps even politicians—who either visited João Teixeira de Faria, took part in his so-called “spiritual healing” sessions, or sought his spiritual counsel, all while publicly promoting his work, it becomes difficult to imagine that such heinous activities could have been taking place right under their noses. On the other hand, though, I also know that evil people often keep their darkest desires and activities hidden from even those that they are closest with, so I suppose it wouldn’t be at all surprising to find that John of God was doing all this while simultaneously being visited by high profile people. Still, given the pattern that has emerged over the years regarding how frequently these people surround themselves with confirmed and accused predators, it makes me wonder.
When I speak of the notable figures that have visited or promoted John of God over the years, I’m thinking of the following names:
Marina Abramovic, the modern artist who became one of the primary focuses of the Pizzagate “conspiracy theory” after emails between her and John Podesta were revealed in the wake of the Podesta Email hack and Wikileak’s publication of them. This was when her disturbing performance art piece “Spirit Cooking” was first discovered by researchers.
Abramovic visited John of God as part of her research for a performance piece, witnessing his controversial procedures such as inserting scissors into a patient's nose and cutting into another's abdomen without anesthesia. As a performance artist known for exploring the limits of the body and spirituality, Abramovic was likely drawn to John of God's practices to observe the intersection of faith, pain, and healing in a visceral context. Abramovic also appears to have a longstanding interest in the “energetic properties of different minerals,” and has made numerous trips to Brazil over the years to explore the rich and diverse spiritual healing practices there.
Interestingly, she also seems to have an interest in Brazilian crystals, which will make a bit more sense later.
To understand why somebody like Abramovic would be drawn to a person like John of God, all one needs to do is merely look at her art and her background to figure it out.
Anyway, here are some photos of her and him together:
Then, there’s the rumors about his connections to former U.S. President Bill Clinton. According to this 2019 article published by the New York Post, they make the claim that even he has been treated by John of God at one time. Although they don’t specify any further than that (or provide a source for that claim), Bill Clinton’s tie-in to John of God is typically described as revolving around John of God being Clinton’s spiritual advisor.
The thing about the above claim is that it sounds outrageous, and although it remains unverified as far as I know, it really isn’t all that crazy given what we know about Bill Clinton’s character and his religious background. It’s actually more plausible than one might initially think.
Clinton’s religious background is pretty interesting, and it stands out from the faiths held by both former Presidents and those that have come since. It blends traditional religious beliefs and guidance with more unconventional influences, at least from what I can find from a brief dive into the history.
Throughout his career, Clinton regularly sought counsel from established Christian ministers; one such minister was his long-time pastor, W.O. Vaught. He also sought guidance from other influential figures such as Rev. Jesse Jackson and Tony Campolo, a well-known evangelical pastor and sociologist whose progressive views often overlapped with Clinton’s own political and social outlook. According to his Wiki page, Campolo is known as one of the most influential leaders in the evangelical left and has been a major proponent of progressive thought and reform within the evangelical community. He has even appeared as a guest on programs such as The Colbert Report, The Charlie Rose Show, Nightline, Crossfire, Larry King Live, Politically Incorrect, and The Hour.
However, Clinton’s interest in spirituality occasionally ventured into more esoteric territories. One of the more controversial aspects of Clinton’s spiritual pursuits was his alleged involvement in a voodoo ceremony during a visit to Haiti in 1975. According to journalist Patrick Robinson’s book Strange Days: Surviving Clinton's 1992 Campaign, Clinton and Hillary reportedly participated in a voodoo ritual led by Max Beauvoir, a prominent voodoo priest, while visiting the country. This anecdote about Clinton has persisted over the years and, to me, indicates a willingness to explore a broad spectrum of spiritual practices. Thus, seeking guidance from a celebrity faith healer like John of God might make sense in this context.
As interesting as that background is, I want to circle back to Tony Campolo, the influential thought leader of the evangelical left. I’m going to blow a lot of your minds with this one. Check this out.
If you query Google for information about Campolo and his association with Bill Clinton, plenty of results show up documenting that connection. One of the websites I found when searching into Campolo’s background was Christian Sourcebook, which you can see at the screenshot below. This is what they said about Campolo:
“Beyond Borders, a 1993 offshoot of Tony Campolo’s Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education (EAPE), is a group of people who join together out of devotion to Christ to work for justice and peace by fostering transformative learning within and across cultural and economic borders. We work primarily among the people of Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and North America in these areas: children’s rights, Christian education, cultural exchange, leadership development, literacy, and teacher training.”
Well now, isn’t that a coincidence? For those of you that are very familiar with the Pizzagate theory, the name “Beyond Borders” should have stood out to you immediately. If it sounds vaguely familiar to you but you just can’t place it, Beyond Borders is the Haiti charity that sits right across the street from Comet Ping Pong in Washington D.C., the primary 'target’ of the Pizzagate theory itself.
Beyond Borders emerged early in the Pizzagate investigation, shortly after people began exploring Comet Ping Pong and its surrounding businesses. At the time, the Clintons' alleged corruption and questionable activities in Haiti were a major focus of discussion, tied to their long history with the country and numerous accusations that had followed them over the years.
Haiti played a critical role in shaping the early theories before 'Pizzagate' even had a name, with the investigation initially revolving around the Clintons' activities there and long-standing allegations of human trafficking. The Laura Silsby/New Life Child Refuge case became a key part of this investigation—a 2010 incident where several American missionaries were arrested in Haiti for child abduction and trafficking following the devastating earthquake. Many believed the Clintons intervened to secure the missionaries’ swift release, fueling suspicions that the story was far more complicated than presented.
What came to light was surprising: James Alefantis, the owner of Comet Ping Pong, was found to be closely associated with people who worked for the very orphanage system from which Silsby took many of the children. It was later revealed that at least one other friend of Alefantis worked at the same orphanage's branch in Mexico, with additional connections potentially existing among Alefantis' circle.
This context is crucial for understanding why Beyond Borders caught the attention of investigators during the Pizzagate probe. They noted that the Clintons had donated to the charity and found it highly suspicious that yet another Haiti-linked entity was located so close to Comet Ping Pong—especially given the Clintons' history with the country and the disturbing overlap between Alefantis’ associates and the child trafficking scandal surrounding the New Life Child Refuge case.
While writing this story, I actually came across new information on this specific connection. I’ll try to keep it short as I don’t want to veer too off topic here, but apparently Beyond Borders has either a sister organization or a partner of some sort called Fondasyon Limyè Lavi (FLL), which is also dedicated to protecting children and ending child slavery. I came across this connection when I was reading up on the history of Campolo’s EAPE organization and came across a copy of a book entitled “Over the Top for Jesus Over the Top for Jesus: A Brief History of the Life and Ministry of Tony Campolo and EAPE” by Doug Davidson.
On page 27 of the book, it states:
“Two independent organizations were born out of EAPE’s work in Haiti— the U.S. based nonprofit Beyond Borders, and a sister organization in Haiti called Limyè Lavi. As agreed EAPE provided interim funding and support for each of the new organizations. As expected Tony’s speaking ministry become even more extensive.”
When I came across that, I queried Google for I found a document about FLL, and if you scroll to the bottom of the very last page, you will see that they list Beyond Borders as an “international partner”.
The reason that I find this particular connection important is because FLL partnered with an organization called Free the Slaves in 2011 to undertake a three year project entitled “Freedom for Haiti’s Children: Community Action to End Slavery Locally and Nationally,” which was funded by the U.S. State Department Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (J/TIP).” You can read the report to Congress itself that outlines the obligated funds owed to FLL for their anti-child trafficking services.
If you recall, this would be the second entity we came across during the Pizzagate investigation that had some sort of connection to the U.S. State Department. The first and most prominent being the Art in Embassies program, which was the same State Department program that modern artist Marina Abramovic was working for.
If you want to learn more about this Haiti/Clinton/Pizzagate conspiracy nexus, I have provided links to my previous coverage on the subject. Simply follow the links below.
Continuing down the list of noteworthy figures who have visited or supported John of God, next we have Naomi Campbell, the famous Victoria’s Secret model. We don’t have much information around her visit, but we do have the below picture:
Lastly, there’s also Oprah’s role in amplifying John of God to consider. She did an entire special on her show featuring John of God and his supposed healing capabilities. It’s hard for people to look at that, and then begin to notice her friendships with other sketchy characters, such as convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein.
JOHN OF GOD & THE EL PASO SHOOTING CONNECTION
I’ve already written more than I intended to, so let’s get straight to the point.
There is a direct connection between the John of God case, and the El Paso shooting incident. Specifically, the connection revolves around Patrick Crusius’s father, Bryan Crusius.
Within hours of the shooting, sleuths over on 4chan’s /pol/ message board swiftly revealed just about every single publicly available detail there was online about not only the gunman, Patrick Crusius, but his entire family as well. As it turned out, it wasn’t Crusius’s background that ended up catching the attention of researchers, but his father’s background. Specifically, his professional background as a provider of psychiatric treatment, and his religious background as a follower of New Age spirituality and healing practices.
In a now-deleted video on his website, Bryan Crusius reflects on the various spiritual pursuits he’s undertaken in his life and shares stories from different moment, and the many obstacles he has faced and overcome over the years. One of those stories was about working with disciples of John of God and helping them unload very heavy boxes of what was apparently crystal balls.
To say that this connection came completely out-of-the-blue and floored us would be an understatement. I hadn’t seen /pol/ so worked up over a discovery since the OG Pizzagate investigation two years earlier in 2016, which was just months of non-stop findings. This, though, was a whole other deal; many of the perpetrators behind mass casualty attacks have curious dimensions in their backgrounds, but what in the world are the chances that this isolated shooting incident was tied-in to a sex abuse scandal that plays a significant role in the broader investigation into Pizzagate?
You can view Crusius’s video below, or by clicking this link here. Take a look:
NOTE: I find the background of this video to be interesting.
Adding yet another layer of intrigue and darkness to the story, Bryan Crusius was not merely an outlier spiritual enthusiast connected to a disgraced healer’s disciples, but also someone who had a background in a completely different, yet equally problematic domain: the world of mental health institutions, where he served as a licensed professional counselor who treats people struggling with PTSD, substance abuse, alcohol addiction, and co-dependence.
On his website, Crusius says his "mission is to bring the highest level of care possible to any who wish to be free from addictions, codependence, PTSD and trauma.”
Other than his professional history available on his website, Bryan Crusius’s role as a licensed therapist is also confirmed by this CBS news article, which states that he had actually treated a survivor of a shooting in 2012.
Interestingly, in his capacity as a licensed therapist, Crusius was also employed as a therapist at a psychiatric hospital in Dallas called Timberlawn Behavioral Health System. You may not have heard of this facility if you are outside of the Dallas area, but to many—especially Timberlawn’s former patients—the facility is infamous. It became known for its appalling record of abuse, neglect, and malpractice over the course of its nearly 100-year history.
The facility was apparently so bad that it was described as a “house of horrors,” where vulnerable patients were subjected to abuse to the point where, in some instances, patients were driven to suicide. The abuse also featured instances of sexual abuse as well, including the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year old. When you take the mainstream media stories around the injustices, abuse, and crimes happening at Timberlawn all together, you’re left with the impression that this abusive activity came about as a toxic combination of inadequate oversight, poor training, and the employees engaging in outright unethical practices, and that’s it.
Perhaps that truly is the case, who knows. All I know is Bryan Crusius was employed by Timberlawn, and apparently involved with convicted rapist and former spiritual healer John of God’s organization, or at least people (“disciples”) from it. Further than that, we have been unable to find any additional information about his involvement.
The institution’s record was apparently so bad that after years of investigations, mounting public pressure, and a series of damning reports from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, the hospital was finally shut down in 2018. The tragic irony is that this place, supposedly established to heal and protect those grappling with the depths of psychological pain, became a breeding ground for deeper trauma, shattering the lives of countless patients and their families.
And it’s that right there that I continue to think about when I reflect on how another figure associated with Timberlawn, Colin A. Ross, worked for Timberlawn at the same time that the El Paso shooter’s father, Bryan Crusius, was working at the facility. Actually, Colin A. Ross was the medical director of the entire Timberlawn facility itself.
And wait until you get a load of this guy’s professional background.
Colin A. Ross & Timberlawn
If you search Ross’s name on Google and visit his Wikipedia page, you’ll notice that his employment at Timberlawn is not cited. However, this is how Ross’s Wikipedia page describes him:
“Colin A. Ross is a Canadian psychiatrist and former president of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation from 1993 to 1994. There is controversy about his methods and claims, which include recovering memories through hypnosis of Satanic ritual abuse.
Ross founded and works in the Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma, a hospital in the Dallas, Texas area. He also directs a trauma program at Forest View Psychiatric Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Most of the people the Ross Institute treats describe very traumatic and abusive childhoods.”
His association with Timberlawn also doesn’t appear on his own Ross Institute website, either. However, we can confirm that he did indeed work for Timberlawn through other means. For example, Colin A. Ross appears on the Alumni page for Jack Hirose & Associates; it says he was there between 1998-2010. If you then navigate to Ross’s bio page on that same Jack Hirose & Associates webpage, it includes additional details about his professional history, including his employment at Timberlawn facility as medical director.
Here’s a screencap of his bio below. This is what it says:
“Colin Ross, M.D. is an internationally renowned clinician, researcher, author and lecturer in the field of traumatic stress and trauma-related disorders. He is the founder and President of the Colin A. Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma. Dr. Ross is the Executive Medical Director of three trauma programs, located at Timberlawn Mental Health System in Dallas, Texas, Forest View Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Del Amo Hospital in Torrance, California. Dr. Ross provides treatment for patients with trauma-related disorders and symptoms.
Dr. Ross has written extensively on the subject of dissociation and trauma.”
Welp….
When you look deeper into Ross, consider his experience in trauma-related disorders, and his research into trauma-based mind control programs, it becomes clear that his professional history is as controversial as it is intriguing. It’s hard to tell if his work regarding CIA trauma-based mind control programs and the disturbing use of psychological manipulation techniques historically employed by the CIA is an attempt to expose it, or legitimize it. The fact it’s even a data point in this larger story at all is baffling, but here we are.
What’s most significant about Colin Ross’s professional background isn’t that it’s somehow related to a component of the larger trauma-based mind control theories…it’s that he literally embodies the theories entirely. For God’s sake, the man apparently specializes in trauma and how deep psychological trauma can be used to fragment personalities within an individual, creating what’s called “alters,” which can then be manipulated or controlled by a skilled practitioner—one with a high degree of knowledge and control of the human mind.
Simply think back to what little we know about the CIA’s illegal mind control experiments under MK-Ultra, and consider the roster of specialists they had on their payroll to assist in such abhorrent activities—experts far more credentialed and brilliant than I am. When you do, the seemingly outlandish nature of mind control theories starts to dissolve, giving way to a clearer sense of plausibility. As it stands, many conspiracy theorists have reached their own conclusions about the mechanics of mind control; as far as I can tell, the consensus is that it involves the deliberate traumatization of children to fracture their personalities through dissociation, and then manipulating the resulting “alters” in such a way that they can be programmed to carry out terrorist attacks or even mass shootings.
Conspiracy theory or not, this entire scenario aligns strikingly well not only with the core concepts of mind control theories but also with the primary focus of Colin Ross’s professional work.
Let me simplify it:
The El Paso shooter, Patrick Crusius, is the son of Bryan Crusius, a licensed psychiatric practitioner who worked at Timberlawn, a psychiatric facility notorious for its history of abuse allegations. Timberlawn also happens to be where Colin Ross served as the medical director for several years, conducting extensive research into how trauma could be harnessed to manipulate and alter mental states.
Bryan Crusius wasn’t just a conventional mental health professional; he was also involved in New Age spiritual practices and had connections to disciples of John of God, the Brazilian faith healer backed by celebrities like Oprah later exposed as a sexual predator and accused of involvement in baby trafficking.
This makes the sequence of events even more unsettling: Patrick Crusius, already the product of a complex psychological environment, commits a mass shooting while in a “psychotic” state of mind—the very type of psychological breakdown that Timberlawn purportedly treated, and which Colin Ross’s research centered on understanding, specifically how trauma could be used to fracture consciousness and potentially control behavior for terrible means such as carrying out terror attacks, mass shootings, or assassinations.
This particular dynamic is made even more chilling by the fact that some of Ross’s work at Timberlawn likely overlapped with the time Bryan Crusius was employed there, raising questions about what might have influenced the environment in which Patrick was raised and his mental state leading up to the tragic event.
While many see Dr. Ross as a whistleblower attempting to expose the darker aspects of psychiatric treatment, others suggest that his deep knowledge of these areas might indicate a closer involvement than he publicly admits. This suspicion is only further fueled by his long tenure at Timberlawn, a facility already steeped in controversy and allegations of unethical experimentation, which makes one wonder whether the hospital was a fertile ground for testing theories on psychological manipulation and control.
Bryan Crusius’s connection to such a notorious facility raises serious questions about the environment in which Patrick Crusius was raised, and whether the dark nature of his father’s professional and personal affiliations had an influence on his development and eventual descent into violence.
Or, perhaps all of this is just a web of meaningless links.
